Choosing the right dog grooming training centre

Choosing the right dog grooming training centre

Choosing the right training centre, and the right course, is one of the most important decisions you will make when starting your dog grooming career.

The quality of training you receive matters far more than the qualification title alone, because not all training is created equal.

Put simply:

City & Guilds is an assessment-based qualification that uses timed practical assessments and theory exams to demonstrate your knowledge and practical ability. To achieve the full qualification, you complete both Level 2 and Level 3, although these can be combined into one all-inclusive course. Coursework is generally informal, consisting of workbooks and home study.

SEG and iPET Network use a continual assessment process with portfolio-based learning. This means completing assignments and documenting practical evidence as you progress. There are no timed exams, but there is more formal written portfolio work made up of units that build your full qualification. These qualifications do not require a separate Level 2, as everything is contained within the Level 3 diploma.

When choosing a course, focus first on the quality of training, and then on the assessment style that best suits how you learn.

Your training will form the foundation of your future business and career. It will shape not only your technical skills, but also the ethos, standards, and grooming philosophy you carry forward.

Training should also be enjoyable.

Courses can be intensive, and even shorter courses can feel long if you are learning somewhere you don’t enjoy being. Learning should feel inspiring, supportive, and exciting, not like a chore. Starting a new career should be something you genuinely look forward to.
